Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas Wins World Catfish Eating Championship

We fell behind on eating contests, I bet you're hungry. Saturday, the 100 lb. Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas scarfed 6.75 lbs. of catfish fillets at the Rhythm City Casino in Davenport, Iowa. She took her $1,000 check and flew home to work in the restaurant she manages.

Like the Corned Beef Eating Championship, a few locals were selected to compete. I have to wonder how long Major League Eating is going to allow civilians to step up to the plate and compete with the pros. It just sounds dangerous, like that time Jose Canseco was beaning batters and crushing liners at helpless, past-their-prime baseball players in the Golden Baseball League.

Full results after the jump.

man, the amateurs got smoked. Maybe they need some sort of “eat-in” round to weed out the non-competitive ones.

That's pretty bad, right?

Imagine picking random people from the crowd for the Home Run Derby or Slam Dunk Contest.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔
